Ayamonte in Spain is one of two border towns straddling the mouth of the river Guadiana the other being Vila Real de San Antonio on the Portuguese side. The marina provides secure berthing in the heart of this typical Spanish town where a pleasant afternoon can be spent wandering the narrow streets and visiting the many Tapas bars. Before the suspension bridge was built some 3 miles upriver the local ferry was the only way to get to Portugal without a substantial detour inland.
