El JEBHA is definitely not a normal tourist destination. This is what makes it such an experience to visit. Essentially a rural fishing harbour you must share the quayside with the fishing fleet, which if not there when you arrive it will surely wake you up when it comes in at three in the morning. The harbour is tiny and you must be prepared to leave if nescasery but do not be put off visiting. The best day to be in El Jebha is Tuesday as that is when the people descend from the surrounding hills for the market which is held in a field on the outskirts of the village. Here you can buy meat for lunch that is still alive and kicking or get your donkey re-shoed. Not what you will find in the market in Romford. Although you are only 80 miles from the cosmopolitan towns of southern Spain you could be forgiven for thinking you had travelled back in time, especially when the town is plunged in darkness after midnight as the local generator is shut down.
