Cadiz is a very old city steeped in history. It was founded by the Phoenecians in about 110BC and has been one of Spain’s principle ports ever since. Cadiz is to the Spanish Navy what Portsmouth is to the Royal Navy but it is perhaps wise not to mention Sir Francis Drake in Cadiz as the Spanish point of view on his exploits differs considerably to what is written in the English history books. The narrow streets of the old town are well worth exploring while the modern part of Cadiz is like any other Spanish city
